What are solar screens?
Solar screens are screens with a solar panel and battery, often eliminating the need for a fixed power connection. This makes them convenient for existing homes, extensions, or windows where wiring is difficult. You benefit from electric operation without the need for destructive work indoors. STERK checks the sun exposure, dimensions, and installation location to ensure the solar system is well-suited to your situation.
Standard 5-year warranty on solar screens

We advise you in advance whether solar is a sensible choice for your window, sun exposure, and usage. Our own skilled technicians then neatly install the system and provide clear instructions on operation, charging, and maintenance. This way, you can choose with confidence.
Frequently asked questions about solar screens
When do you choose solar screens?
You choose solar screens when you want electric operation without having to run new power cables to the window. This is convenient for existing buildings, dormer windows, extensions, or windows where the interior finish does not need to be opened up. During the home visit, we assess whether the panel receives sufficient light and whether solar is technically feasible.
What is the difference with electric screens?
A solar screen works with a panel and battery. For electric outdoor screens, the motor is usually permanently connected to power. Both solutions offer comfort. If you want to compare more broadly first, also look at regular screens for outdoor sun protection.
Can a solar screen also be a zip screen?
Yes, in many situations, solar operation can be combined with zip guiding. This gives you the convenience of wireless operation and the sleek fabric guiding of zip screens. This creates a neat solution for windows where both wind and sun play a role.
Is a solar screen suitable as sun protection?
Certainly. The fabric works the same as with other screen sunshades: it keeps out bright sunlight and heat before the glass warms up. For windows on the sunny side, this can provide a lot of comfort, especially when you use the screen daily.
Can screens solar be on the outside of the window?
Yes, solar screens are usually installed on the outside. The precise installation depends on the window frame, facade, and space around the window. For difficult windows, we look for a suitable external window screen and consider the position of the solar panel. For broader outdoor applications, we look at outdoor sun blinds.
Are solar screens suitable for a canopy?
Sometimes. For screens for verandas, we carefully check whether the panel receives enough light and whether the mounting is strong enough. Under a deep overhang, solar may be less suitable. Therefore, we always assess this on site.
How dark do solar screens make a room?
That depends on the fabric. A standard fabric filters light, while blackout screens block much more light. For bedrooms or TV rooms, we therefore always discuss the right openness factor and color. You can see the difference beforehand with samples.
Can I replace the canvas later?
Yes, often that is possible. If the motor, casing, and guides are in good condition, new screen fabrics can refresh the screen. If you're primarily looking for a cost-effective solution, also compare cheap screens, but always have it assessed first to determine what is technically sound.
