When do you choose an electric folding arm awning?

For larger awnings, we almost always recommend electric, because it works more comfortably and the operation is less heavy than with a crank handle.
Which size awning is right for my patio?
The right size depends on the width of your patio, the position of the sun, and how much shade you desire. For a large patio, an articulated arm awning 600 x 300 is often a good choice. During the home visit, we will measure the facade and determine the appropriate projection for your situation.
Is 400 x 300 cm enough for an average patio?
For many terraced houses and compact patios, a 400 x 300 awning is a good size. You get 4 meters of width and 3 meters of projection, which usually provides good shade for your dining table or seating area. We always check whether the size fits the facade, walking space, and sun exposure.
Can an awning also be installed on a balcony?
Yes, an awning can often also be installed on a balcony, as long as there is sufficient sturdy mounting space. We look at the facade, balcony construction, wind load, and desired projection. Especially with balconies, good advice is important because the wind can have a greater impact on the fabric.
How long does an awning last?
An awning, with normal use and proper maintenance, will last an average of 15 to 20 years. The fabric may need replacing sooner than the arms or cassette. STERK can help you with maintenance, fabric replacement, or replacing parts, so you don't immediately need a completely new awning.
What if it's windy?
In strong winds, a folding arm awning must be retracted. A wind sensor can help with this, as it automatically retracts the awning when the wind becomes too strong. Especially around the Gooimeer and in open areas such as Almere, we advise you to seriously consider wind load in your choice.
