What are zip screens?
Zip screens are vertical screens where the fabric runs tightly in the side guides with a zipper system. This keeps the fabric better in place in windy conditions and ensures a neat fit along the window. You keep heat and harsh light out, while often still being able to see outside during the day. STERK measures, advises on fabric and operation, and installs with its own skilled technicians.
Standard 5-year warranty on zip screens
If you have your zip screens supplied and installed by STERK, you will receive a standard 5-year warranty on the product and installation. We measure your windows, provide honest advice on fabric and operation, and ensure a neat finish. This way, you know what to expect beforehand, and you also have a local point of contact after installation.
Frequently asked questions about zip screens
When do you choose zip screens?
You choose zip screens when you want a tightly stretched fabric that stays securely in the side guides. This is beneficial for windows where wind can have a greater impact on the sun protection. Zip screens are particularly suitable for those who want to keep heat out, maintain privacy, and value a calm appearance for their facade.
How much do zip screens cost?
The price depends on size, fabric, color, operation, and installation. If you are looking for a sharp entry-level option, then cheap screens might be interesting. At STERK, we don't just look at the price, but also at lifespan, neat installation, and operation that suits your home.
What is the difference from regular screens?
A zip screen has a zip guide that keeps the fabric tighter in the guides. Regular screens are also effective outdoor sun protection, but zip screens often feel more robust for larger windows or wind-sensitive locations. If your primary goal is heat rejection, also compare sun protection screens.
Can a zip screen also be solar or electric?
Yes, that's often possible. With solar screens you don't need a fixed power connection, while electric outdoor screens are ideal if you want to operate multiple screens easily. During the home visit, we'll determine what best suits your needs, both technically and practically.
Can zip screens be installed on the outside of the window?
Yes, zip screens are usually installed on the outside. This prevents sunlight from heating up the glass. For specific window solutions, you can also look at a window exterior screen or wider exterior solar shading screens.
Are zip screens suitable for a canopy?
In many situations, yes, especially when you want to enclose the side or front of a canopy to protect against low-lying sun, wind, or prying eyes. For that type of application, we specifically look at canopy screens, as the dimensions and attachment methods may differ from those for facade windows.
Do zip screens make a room dark?
Ritsscreens reduce harsh light, but the effect heavily depends on the fabric type and openness factor. If you want to block out more light in a bedroom or study, blackout screens are often a better fit. We'll bring fabric samples so you can see the difference yourself.
Can the canvas be replaced later?
Yes, often the fabric can be replaced without having to remove the entire system. This is useful in case of wear, discoloration, or if you want a different color. We then assess the casing, guides, and motor. For loose fabrics or replacement, you can read more about screen fabrics.
