In the Netherlands we love the sun, but too much exposure to it can be harmful to our health and our possessions. We are therefore regularly asked: is it better to block the sun from inside or outside? In this blog we have listed the pros and cons.
When do you choose interior sun protection?
Indoor sun blinds, such as curtains, blinds and shades, offer many advantages. Firstly, they are relatively easy to install. They are often lighter in weight and less solid. You also often hardly see indoor sun blinds from the outside, provided they are closed of course.
However, interior sun protection also has some disadvantages. A major disadvantage is that it lets through many times more heat. Because the, often fabric, becomes warm due to the sun, the house still heats up on the inside. In addition, certain types of interior sun protection, such as curtains and fabric shades, can be sensitive to discolouration due to prolonged exposure to the sun.
Internal sun blinds therefore offer a lot of privacy, but less protection against the heat of the sun.
When do you choose outdoor sun protection?
External sun protection, such as awnings, canopies and roller shutters, offer several advantages over internal sun protection. For example, it is extremely effective at blocking heat and UV rays, keeping the temperature indoors more comfortable, and it protects furniture and interior items from discolouring.
Another advantage of external sun protection is that it does not disrupt the view and aesthetics of a building. This means that STERK Zonweringen's well-designed sunshades and awnings can be installed almost anywhere.
Of course, there are some disadvantages to outdoor shading. For example, it can be more expensive to install than indoor shading, and it can limit the way you can open and close your windows.
