Tips and Tricks for Maintaining Your Sun Protection

Sun protection is becoming an increasingly important part of our homes. It protects your home from the sun and at the same time adds a touch of style to our living space. But just like other household appliances, sun protection needs maintenance once a year to continue to perform optimally and keep looking good. In this blog post, we share handy tips and tricks for cleaning and maintaining sun protection, so that you can enjoy fresh sun protection all year round.

Preparation and Supplies

Before you start cleaning your awnings, it's important to prepare yourself and have the right supplies on hand.

  • Soft brush
  • Mild cleaning agent such as Ultramar canvas cleaner for tent canvas or HG sunshade cleaner
  • Soft cloth
  • Running water or buckets of water

Cleaning your own sun blinds

Depending on the type of sun protection you have, there are different methods for cleaning them.

Roller shutters:
For roller shutters, use a soft brush to remove dust and dirt. Then impregnate the roller shutter with an impregnant.

Sun protection with fabric:
If possible, remove the fabric of the sun protection. First remove the large dirt and sand. Then rinse the fabric with, preferably lukewarm, water. Then use a cleaner and impregnation agent to clean and protect the fabric. Let the agent soak in for 15 minutes and then rinse it off with water.

Sun protection box:
You can easily remove this with a soft brush and preferably lukewarm water.

Maintenance and Repair:

Depending on the age of your sun protection, we advise you to lubricate it once a year. This concerns the moving parts of the sun protection. Think of the folding arms or in the box.

Any tears in the cloth can be replaced locally or the entire cloth can be replaced. Prevention is better than cure, so we always recommend choosing the wind sensor to prevent damage.
