Installing a Heatstrip: the complete 2026 mounting guide

You can mount a Heatstrip patio heater in 30 minutes if you know what you're doing. In this guide we walk step by step through location choice, mounting height, mounting options, the electrical connection and the most common mistakes.

Step 1: choose the right location. The Heatstrip should point diagonally down onto the seating zone (a 10-30 degree angle). Ideally on the wall behind the seating area, or on the ceiling of a canopy. Avoid: directly above a table or straight into the wind.

Mounting-height rule of thumb: 2.2 to 2.5 metres for the Classic 1500W/2400W. 2.5-3 metres for the Classic 3200W and Design 3600W.

Step 2: connection method. Option A is a socket via the 3m plug cable - fastest, but the cable is visible. Option B is a fixed connection via an electrician - neat finish, 100-200 euros extra. Option C is an indoor wall switch - flexible and permanent.

Step 3: mount the wall bracket. The bracket is in the box. Drill holes 10 cm apart, horizontal (use a spirit level!). A Classic 2400W weighs 3.5 kg - use screws of at least 60 mm and M6 wall plugs.

Step 4: hang the Heatstrip on the bracket. Slide it into place and tighten the 2 locking screws. Check the horizontal line.

Step 5: connect the power. With a plug: simply plug it in. With a fixed connection: have an electrician do it. An IP-rated cable gland and earth-leakage protection are mandatory.

Step 6: test. Heat within 30 seconds. A brief chemical smell at first is normal (the factory coating burns off).

1. Hanging too high: heat dilutes above 3 metres.
2. 2. Too far from the seating zone: 1-3 metres horizontally is ideal.
3. 3. In the wind: even medium-wave infrared loses effectiveness.
4. 4. Wrong wattage: too powerful in a small space gives a hot ceiling reflection.
5. 5. Not level: mounted crooked, it gives uneven heat distribution.
